George Duddy

Author

George Duddy is a retired Professional Engineer having worked 40+ years on hydroelectric construction and construction planning with B.C. Hydro, and also as a consultant. George was born in Fort St. John where his father managed the Hudson’s Bay Company store (his father joined the HBC as a fur trade apprentices in 1923). The family then moved to Vancouver Island in 1944. George’s interest in maritime subjects was developed in his boyhood and youth while observing log transportation, naval exercises and incoming ships calling at the William Head Quarantine Station at Parry Bay near Esquimalt, BC. Later he moved to White Rock (where he currently resides) and was active for many years with the Lower Mainland Yacht Co-op, serving as Commodore from 1989-1990. He actively enjoys historical research including corresponding with people around the world. His passion for the untold story, and his interest in the HBC fur trade and Arctic dealings, have led him to writing this, his first book.

After retirement George worked collaboratively with other researchers and writers. For more than 10 years he has been active with The Nauticapedia project group where his articles were first published and he became an “contributor”.  Also, as a result of other interactions he became friends with US naval writer Cdr. David D. Bruhn USN (Retired). David has helped him with his book and George has served as critical reviewer and content editor for a number of David’s many books, contributing Canadian material and forewords for several.
